Mud Monkey Wins International Bathroom Contest!
|
Ormond Beach, FL. June 11, 2008. Local business owner, Bonnie Karet, has won an international contest called "Ode to Commodes" The contest was held to find the most creative bathroom in all of the The Contemporary Ceramic Studio Association (CCSA), an association with nearly one thousand members worldwide. In the Ode to Commodes contest, Mud Monkey competed with bathrooms from around the world and won first place with almost 42% of the vote. Karet said that when she moved the studio in August of 2007, the new bathroom was a blank slate so she decided to let employee and high school senior, Brittney Gibely, design and paint the bathroom. "Brittney, and all of my employees, are so creative and have such an upbeat and fun energy" Karet says."I wanted to capture that in the bathroom, and I think we did!" The grand prize is a glass fused plaque in the shape of, what else, a toilet! Karet plans to proudly display the plaque in her bathroom.
Mud Monkey Pottery and Art Studio opened in August of 2004 and has become part of the community fabric of Ormond Beach. Mud Monkey has has helped raise over $70,000 for local schools since opening and has donated a free art and pottery program twice a month to Stewarts Marchman's Residential Adolescent Rehab program for the past 3 years. Mud Monkey outgrew its original location in the Trails Shopping Center and moved to a much larger facility in the Rivergate Village Shopping Center at 126 S. Nova Rd. in Ormond Beach. In 2007, Mud Monkey Pottery and Art Studio was selected as one of the top 50 successful studios worldwide by the CCSA. Karet attributes her success in the face of a bad economy to talented employees, to her dedication to community involvement, and to the fact that in her store, art is for fun and for making memories. Mud Monkey offers pottery painting, wet clay, pottery wheels, glass fusing, mosaics, parties, homeschool classes, summer camps and more.
